Punjab Agriculture University Lodhiana, India and University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) have decided to enhance their co-operation in the field of agriculture. A nine-member delegation of UAF headed by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan visited Punjab Agriculture University Lodhiana, India and attended the Alumni meeting.
During the five-day visit, the delegation also visited Chandargarh and witnessed various places of landscaping, floriculture, and orchards of citrus and other horticultural crops.
The delegation was comprised of Director General National Institute of Food Science and Technology Professor Dr Faqeer Mohammad Anjum, Chairman Department of Farm Machinery Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Director Institute of Horticulture Science Professor Dr Amjad Aulak, Director Institute of Business Administration Professor Dr Khalid Mustafa, Professor Dr Hafiz Abdul Qayum of Public Relation and Publication and Information Technology Resource Centre and Databank Principal Officer Professor Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif, Executive Director Industries Muhammad Mushtaq and Professor Dr Muhammad Waqas.
They discussed the new avenue of co-operation. At the alumni meeting, the delegation discussed the issues of mutual concerns relating to wheat, rice, sugarcane, cotton, maize and other crops. They also threw light on the academic programmes, research and development and outreach programmes.
Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of agriculture. They also discussed the areas where they have to expedite the efforts with the help of each other's experiences. They also stressed the need for setting up of the Technology Park across the borders to learn from each other's experience. They also agreed to cultivate new varieties of various crops near the border in a bid to increase technology transfer. They also discussed the new avenue of trade between the two countries after granting MFN status to India.
The vice chancellor UAF called for more cementing the ties especially in the field of agriculture. They delegation also witnessed the ITRM, Molecular Biology Lab, Pesticide laboratories etc. They also talked about success stories of Pakistani citrus, seedless Kinow and cotton productivity as well as Indian wheat. Professor Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif urged the Pakistani scientists to learn from the experiences of India in mechanised agricultural implements that were more effective and low cost. He called for developing and promoting such technologies in Pakistan.
