Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar on Friday informed the Lower House of the Parliament about the present status of 12 power generation projects launched by the government. He said that the work on Mangla Dam Raising Project (120MW) has been substantially completed. However, he said that overall physical progress of the work on infrastructure development of five towns being developed for affectees is about 80 percent.
About Diamar Basha Dam (4500MW), he said that preparatory works ie office building at Chillas, Project Colony in Thor Valley, Chillas, Composite Model Village-11 at Harpan Das, Thakot Bridge, Construction of by-pass KKH were under progress. He added that construction activities of main dam were scheduled to start in 2012.
About Dubber Khwar Hydropower Project (130MW), the minister said that 95 percent installation of buried earthing system and thermo-weld connection in powerhouse has been completed, 99 percent of E&M equipment has reached at designated store area, remaining E&M equipment is in process of manufacturing/testing and shipment. He added that turbine pit unit-1; the adjustment/alignment of the turbine distributor pipes has been completed. He said that turbine pit unit-2 the hydro test at 1.5 times of working pressure has been completed by E&M contractor. He said that physical progress is 80.5 percent.
The minister said that the original cost of Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project as per PC-I is Rs 84.500 billion. The revised cost of the project is Rs 333.191 billion, he said. He said that main tunnel measuring about 17.5 km out of 62 km has been completed. All Adit tunnels 11.1 km have been completed. River has been diverted, work on powerhouse, Headrace tunnel and tunnel excavation is in progress. He added that 3711 kanal out of 3785 has been acquired. He said that the overall physical progress of the project achieved so far is 27.5 percent. The expenditure incurred in the project, as on 31st October 2011 is Rs 28.866 billion, he said.
He said that the project would be completed by mid 2016 and installed generation capacity of the project is 969MW. The average annual energy produced will be 5.15 billion units per annum, he said. Similarly, about Golen Gol Hydropower Project, the minister said that the contractor M/s SAMBU has mobilised at site for construction of main contract. He added that construction of O&M colony is in progress.
About Jabban Rehabilitation Hydel Project, he said that construction work of powerhouse unit-1 to 4, penstock and forebay is in progress while physical progress is 20%. Qamar also informed the House about Kurram Tangi Dam that Rs 100 million allocated in PSDP 2011-12 but no fund has been released so far. He said that consultancy agreement with M/s MMP has been signed on 17-11-2011 for construction supervision. He said that USAID has shown interest to finance the project. The minister also informed about present status of Allai Khwar hydropower, Tarbela 4th Extension, Jinnah Hydropower and Satpara Dam.
