Commodities on the wholesale markets moved both ways during the week ended on December 17, 2011. Generally price trend remained downwards, as uncertainties dominated the world markets.
On the week opening day juwar that kept steady for days rose by Rs 200 to Rs 2200 and Rs 2300, guwar Punjab rose by Rs 300 to Rs 7200 to Rs 7300, cottonseed cakes Sindh with bag low type lost Rs 75 to Rs 800, while the other kind lost Rs 25 to Rs 950. Irri-6 Sindh low type yielded Rs 10 to Rs 3140, while other type shed Rs 50 to Rs 3200.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items (40-kg) nutmeg rose by Rs 6000 to Rs 40,000, small cardamom was down by Rs 12,000 to Rs 60,000 big cardamom was quoted at Rs 67000, cloves was down by Rs 3000 to Rs 52,000, copra India was down Rs 200 to Rs 5900, dry ginger from China lost Rs 200 to Rs 13800, dry ginger Ethiopia lost Rs 1000 to Rs 8000, long pepper gained Rs 500 to Rs 43,500 and sago up Rs 100 to Rs 3100.
On Thursday only some rates from wholesale grain markets were available, which showed yellow peas from Canada was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 3900 and Rs 4100, yellow peas Ukraine was up by same amount to Rs 3700 and Rs 3900, yellow peas dal Ukraine rose by Rs 50 to Rs 4200 and Rs 4400, wheat old and new bardan was quoted higher at Rs 2685 and Rs 2690, cottonseed oilcakes with bag Sindh low type gained Rs 50 to Rs 850 the other quality lost same amount to Rs 900.
On Wednesday wheat old bardan registered at Rs 2685, while new type was quoted at Rs 2700, Irri-6 Sindh low type shed Rs 60 to Rs 3080, while better type was lower by Rs 60 to Rs 3150, cotton-seed oilcakes in Sindh with bag low type lost Rs 25 to Rs 850, while the other variety was unchanged at Rs 900.
On Jodia Bazaar Milk powder skimmed (per 25 kg) Irish skimmed was quoted at Rs 8500, while older burger ended up by Rs 1600 to Rs 11400. Vegetable Euro Gold up Rs 500 to Rs 9800, and Corolac up by Rs 200 to Rs 10,200.
On Thursday yellow peas Canada shed Rs 50 to Rs 3850-4050, yellow peas Canada dal lost Rs 50 to Rs 4300 and Rs 4500, yellow peas Ukraine low type lost Rs 200 to Rs 4300, while better quality shed Rs 100 to Rs 3800, yellow peas Ukraine dal dropped Rs 50 to Rs 4150-4350, guwar Sindh and Punjab low type gained Rs 200 to Rs 7400, while superior rose by Rs 300 to Rs 7600, wheat old and new rose by Rs 5 to Rs 2700 and Rs 2715, til low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3500, cottonseed oilcakes low type Sindh rose by Rs 25 to Rs 850, while the other type was quoted at Rs 900.
On Friday prices of commodities were unchanged, as almost all the participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday easier trend was seen as local commodities were under pressure due to persisting decline in the rates all over the world. Wheat old and new Bardan were down by Rs 15 to Rs 2685-2700, other items showed no major changes due to slow demand. Irri-6 Sindh low type was lower by Rs 80 to Rs 3000 and the best quality shed Rs 100 in the absence of demand by retailers and exporters, world's major exporting countries losing orders due to financial and other problems. Cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh both inferior and superior types lost Rs 50 to Rs 800-850 owing to the easy supply but no strong demand. Gram items held the overnight levels in the absence of proper demand.
On Jodia Bazaar sweetened milk edged down. The changes were: SWEETENED MILK (Per carton): Polac ended lower by Rs 100 to Rs 2,750 and Lucky Boy was quoted at Rs 2,750. UNSWEETENED: King of Kings moved upward by Rs 100 to Rs 4,700.
