The Lahore Electric Supply Company Lesco has announced two hours daily load shedding in urban and five hours in rural areas under its jurisdiction. Lesco spokesman Javaid Ahmad Khan told Business Recorder here on Monday that the distribution company was facing shortfall of 400MW electricity in supply and demand, which is being met by twice one hour suspension in the cities and five hours scattered shutdown in the villages.
Lesco is getting 1700MW from the national grid against its reduced winter demand of 2100MW electricity, he added. Javaid said Lesco is responsible to supply electricity to 3.3. million industrial, commercial, agriculture and domestic consumers of five districts Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Qasur. Power sector experts say that the current nation-wide gap between electricity generation and demand is about 1200MW to 1500MW, while the total hydel, thermal and IPPs daily production is about 11,500MW.
