Sindh government has directed all Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, district health officers and medical officers to make the campaign of polio eradication a successful and special measures be made for coverage of campaign up to Union Council levels in rural areas also, so that no child is left unattended.
The Three-day polio drive started from 19th to 21 December 2011, Well-placed sources in Sindh government have told Business Recorder on Monday that letters have been issued to all officials in this regard in which it was stated that it is very alarming that at present, 30-polio cases have been detected in various localities of province, while it is an endeavor of the provincial government to complete the target of polio eradication in all areas for which, the District Administrations/DCs, DHOs, government teachers, community people and NGO's should share their responsibility and should play their role for fulfilment of target.
On the other hand, the Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated the three-day campaign for eradication of polio in Sindh province by administering polio drops to children in an impressive ceremony held at Chief Minister House on Monday, according to press release issued here on Monday.
The ceremony was attended among others by Ms Azra Fazal Pechuho MNA, Shahnaz Wazir Ali Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Shahla Raza Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly, Dr Sagheer Ahmed Minister Health, Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Minister for Katchi Abadis, Akhtar Jadoon Minister Transport, Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Secretary Health Hashim Raza Zaidi and Secretary to CM Sindh Alamuddin Bullo.
Chief Minister Sindh said that the government is observing polio-day as a national day throughout the country, while the government of Sindh has initiated and launched campaign throughout province, which will continue for 3-day from 19th December to 21 December 2011.
Chief Minister Sindh warned that in case there is careless or lethargy in this national cause, prompt disciplinary action will be taken against those involved and negligent officers. He said that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have announced ownership of programme at national level and we have owned it at Sindh level, and Sindh Health Minister and his department are fully striving for success and implementation of programme.
