Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corpor-ation Muhammad Hussain Syed on Monday laid the foundation stone of Orangi Town Nullah Bridge Extension Project. He was accompanied by Director General Technical Altaf G. Memon, Chief Engineer Zone-V Asad Shah, renowned social entrepreneur Siraj Kassim Teli and other KMC officers.
On this occasion he said that the work on five flyovers and three underpasses is going to be started in the current financial year while the extension project of Orangi Nullah Bridge has been commenced.
This bridge would now consist of six lanes instead of four lanes with 38 piles and 16 girders and its completion would make the whole corridor from Sharae Faisal to Siemens Roundabout signal free. He said that this bridge will be completed by April with a cost of Rs 98 million. Length of this bridge is 75 meter with 9.5 meter width.
Administrator Karachi said that the extension of this bridge would also solve the traffic jam problem in this area. He thanked Governor of Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan who took special interest in the provision of fund for this project while he also thanked provincial minister for local government Agha Siraj Durrani for always supporting the development and progress works in the city.
Work on this bridge was started with the relocation of electricity, telephone and gas lines and the construction of this bridge would provide lot of convenience to the residents of Orangi Town, SITE, Metroville, Qasba Colony, Baldia Town, Shershah, Mauripur, Hawkesbay besides it would be beneficial for traffic going to or from industrial areas as daily 2 Lac vehicles passing through this junction which includes heavy transport and trailers while the Balochistan based transport also uses this route to reach the intercity bus terminal.
Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed also inspected the encroachments established beneath this bridge which included warehouses and buffalo stables. He immediately issued directives for their immediate removal so that any hurdle in the construction of bridge could be removed. He instructed Works and Services Department to continue round the clock work on this project so that it could complete in time. He also directed to carryout repair work on the already constructed part of the bridge.
