KFW Develop-ment Bank with assistance of German government on Tuesday donated 10 vehicles to Fata Secretariat for strengthening of monitoring and supervision of TB control programme, as a component of Fata basic health programme.
In this connection, a ceremony held here in which Director of KFW Development Bank (Pakistan Office), Dr Anna Christine Janke Gi handed over 10 vehicles to Abid Majeed, Secretary Admin and Co-ordination Fata Secretariat for strengthening the monitoring and supervision of TB Control Programme.
The mother and child healthcare services, emergency care services, quality improvement and essential services, logistic management information system, provision of Mobile Health Care Units, including maintenance and disposition funds are other components of Fata Basic Health Programme initiated since February 2010.
On the occasion, Dr Anna Chrisitine Janke appreciated the support and efforts made by Fata Secretariat to make a visible progress in the form of these vehicles. She emphasised the need for efficient use of funds to achieve common interests that could pave way for subsequent goals. Abid Majeed expressed gratitude over the support provided by German government and vowed to ensure the proper utilisation of vehicles.
He said that an amount equivalent to 5 million Euros; from the total of 10 million, as agreed with the German Government to be spent on Fata Health Sector in return for getting waived 10 million Euros German debt and its interest-a debt swap-have already been pledged by the Federal Government and will be received soon. It will be spent on upgrading agency hospitals of Wana and Landi Kotal to Category A hospitals and to establish Category A hospital in Oragzai Agency. He said endeavours will be made to provide as much autonomy as possible to push close these hospitals to Category A.
Abid Majeed also asked for the support in the area of social mobilisation; intended to be done through schools and nikah registrar to keep the residents of Fata aware of services provided to them, and emphasised the need for replacing USAID deferred project of providing Solar Energy Panals to ICU, Operation theatres and Cold Chain Units in the hospitals of Fata. Dr Fawad, Director Health in the end thanked KFW Development Bank for the support and ensured full commitment in improving health services for the people of Fata.
