There has been a social media uproar over the alleged extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old hailing from South Waziristan, was among the four suspects killed in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar in Usman Khaskheli Goth last week.

While, SSP Anwar had claimed that the slain suspects were allegedly involved in several high-profile terror cases and had ties with terrorist outfits, the Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo motu notice on Friday of the alleged extrajudicial murder of Naqeebullah’s in Karachi.

Taking notice of the issue, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has asked the inspector general of Sindh police to submit a report within seven days. On Thursday, the Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal also took notice of Naqeebullah’s death and ordered the South police DIG to personally conduct an inquiry, local media reported.

Naqeebullah’s relatives residing in D I Khan claimed that Naqeebullah was picked up by the plain clothes from Sher Agha Hotel in Sohrab Goth on night between January 2 and 3 and since then he was missing.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also ordered an inquiry into the matter. Bilawal tweeted on Thursday that he has asked the home minister to conduct an inquiry into the case.

Many people have took to social media and have been tweeting under the hashtag #JusticeForNaqib, calling the encounter 'fake' and beyond the judicial boundaries..
