Grand nephew of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Merchant says Pakistan appears to be moving towards early elections. A mandate from people-the ultimate sovereign-is better way forward rather than continuous confrontation, hurling accusations by politicians, which is against Quaid's principles of unity, faith, discipline. "Nation desperately needs these, which eluded us for 64 years."
"It is never too late to learn and make amendments in national interest," he told PPI in an interview on Saturday in Karachi. "December 25 is an important date in Pakistan's calendar. People remember the Quaid and reiterate their commitment to his ideology and vision. This time Pakistan is going through yet another crisis of confidence with the organs of state expressing divergent views on issues that threaten national security and democracy," said Liaquat, who is Administrator of Jinnah Estate and President of Jinnah Society.
Quaid-e-Azam expressed a total commitment to supremacy of Constitution, rule of law, independence of judiciary and clearly said that first duty of Government is to maintain law and order so that life, property, liberty, religious beliefs of citizens are fully protected, he observed.
