Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar, said that the lawyers by their profession are in a better position to educate people on constructive social norms; promote spirit of tolerance and accommodation and encourage the people to build the habit of patiently listening views of each other rather than imposing self-styled agenda.
Addressing as the chief guest at the convocation of Law College, a pioneer subsidiary institution of the University of Peshawar, on Saturday the Governor said, "seriously competing in support of respective clients, before courts and exchanging pleasant words after proceedings with each other is a routine practice of lawyers which itself communicates a positive message of spirit of accommodation to society and helps its balanced development".
The young lawyers, he added, should extend due respect to every person, whosoever comes across them, as, he added under the law every one is innocent, till he or she is formally declared convict by court of law. The Governor especially expressed his pleasure over the gender parity amongst the graduates and said that he is much impressed of the performance of ladies.
In all about 350 LLB graduates, almost 120 were ladies. Miss Saadi Rehman and Miss Bina Allaudin bagged University Gold Medals for achieving distinctive positions during the sessions, 2005 and 2006 whereas Miss Hadia Irshad and Huma Saeed achieved the distinctive honour for their best performance in the sessions 2007 and 2008, respectively. Similarly Miss Jauhar Wajahat and Miss Kiran Nisar topped the sessions 2009 and 2010, respectively and got the University Gold Medals.
The Principal of the College Professor Dr Adnan Sarwar presented the annual progress report of the college while the vice-chancellor of the University Professor Dr Azmat Hayat delivered the vote of thanks to the Governor and the guests for gracing the occasion.
The Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the University, while referring to the importance of co-curricular activities, further stressed that there should be debates, discussions, conferences, symposia and workshops on frequent basis wherein students need to be given ample opportunities to flourish their capabilities. We desire the universities and colleges, he remarked, are to be treated as the most important institutions in the country like in any civilised society of the world as, he added, people always look towards them to provide solutions to the problems, which they have been facing. "You are the people, who have to guide the country and help the nation in getting it out of the prevailing difficulties too while directly pointing towards the graduates and other members of the lawyers community."
Congratulating the graduates and the faculty members of the college for holding a magnificent event, the Governor also invited the attention of the participants towards the fatal effects of polio disease in the society and appealed them to ensure vaccination of each and every child of up to the age of five years in their influence and surroundings and get the nation out of this curse.
