Pakistan Agricultural Scientists Association (PASA) President Jamshed Iqbal Cheema has called for allocating more funds for agricultural research focused on increasing per-acre yield to provide food to the masses on cheaper rates.
Talking to reporters here the other day, he alleged that the provincial government had allocated Rs 7 billion for special initiatives in the budget. But, whenever the government had to take a popular decision and it needed money, it was taken from that head. "Government is investing in those projects, which are visible and could win political mileage for them but not investing in plans aimed at future prosperity and food security," Cheema regretted. He said food was going out of the reach of poor and lower, middle class in our country.
