Although stern punitive measures have been taken to avert the incidents of acid attack in the country, yet another case was reported in Karachi where two girls became victims to the offence in Surjani Town. According to police sources, the incident took place at House No L-384, Sector 5-D, Surjani Town where one, Kamran, threw acid on two girls namely Erum, 18, daughter of Noor Muhammad and Zarin daughter of Zahid.
Both the victims received burn injures and were sent to Civil Burns Ward (CBW) for treatment. However, the accused managed to flee after committing the crime.
When contacted, in-charge CBW Dabeer Rehman said the victim Zarin received minor injures and her family took her away while the victim Erum got severe burn injures both in upper and lower torso and was admitted in CBW for treatment.
To a question, MLO Aftab Channar said the victim Erum received 25 percent burn injures on her body hence it was premature to take any decision regarding her plastic surgery at this time.
He said that her injuries would take at least 40 days to heal and after then doctors would be able to take any decision regarding plastic surgery. The grandfather of Zarin, Islamuddin, in his statement informed police that the accused person started following them when he along with his granddaughter came to the area where he resided.
After realising that they were being followed, they take shelter in Erum's house, who is Zarin's friend and was her neighbour before she shifted to Ayub Goth. Later, the accused Kamran came to Erum's house and threw acid on them and ran away.
Meanwhile, DSP Abdul Fateh Saangri said that the accused Kamran had been arrested and a case 716/11 was registered on the complaint of Zarin under section 324/34 of Pakistan Penal Code.
