Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has again proven to the public that before going into politics he should have taken a course somewhere on 'how to run a modern state' or something like this. While boasting on the floor of the house he said he will not tolerate a state within state, why did he not speak when Raymond Davis a CIA operative was arrested red handed in the most congested Mozang area killing three youngsters in broad day light, which exposed a battery of contractors abusing diplomatic visas issued by our Ambassador in US.
He was citing on Wednesday three conditions that encompassed new rules of engagement between the US and Pakistan, among them that Washington guarantees the sovereignty of Pakistan. By doing so he has proven again that he himself doesn't understand what a democracy is all about and how it functions and is functioning under his tenure now.
Sovereignty according to those rules is not bestowed upon a country by some alien power but it is a right and a condition arising from the country itself, from its struggle for sovereignty, from the commitment of its citizens and its government and its army. Sovereignty has to be owned by the country and its people. By asking the US out of all the countries to guarantee our sovereignty he has not only proven utter ignorance, he has also admitted that he and his government is unable to defend sovereignty of Pakistan themselves and thus by asking the power that has repeatedly infringed and violated Pakistan's sovereignty to defend it is putting the fox in charge of the hen-house.
By giving such a statement Gilani has admitted that he is unable to run the government of our country; it is a complete surrender. The only thing he can possibly do after this is to resign.
