The 14th death anniversary of a renowned poet, philosopher and writer Shaikh Ayaz was observed on Wednesday across the Sindh. He died on December 28, 1997 and buried at Bhit Shah near the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai. The ceremonies to pay him the tribute were held in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Nawabshah, Shikarpur, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Khairpur and other big and small cities of Sindh.
The participants including poets, scholars, writers, journalists, educationalist etc offered Fatiha for the deprived soul. In these ceremonies, speakers paid glowing tribute to Ayaz for his remarkable contributions for Sindhi and Urdu literature. A delegation of Sindhi writers and poets visited the grave of Shaikh Ayaz and laid floral wreath and offered Fatiha. Shaikh Ayaz was awarded with Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his pride and performance in literature. Zulfiqar Haider Otho said that Ayaz is a greatest Sindhi poet after Shah Abdul Latif, adding he is also founder of modern Sindhi poetry.
