Veteran politician and former senior vice president Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on Thursday tendered his resignation as member National Assembly amid thundering applause by both treasury and opposition members. The veteran politician from Multan was given standing ovation when he waved to his colleagues before leaving the House after resigning from the house.
The senior parliamentarian resigned from the Lower House of the Parliament as he has recently joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Before tendering his resignation, Javed Hashmi delivered a balanced and comprehensive speech in the National Assembly. He said that the politicians in the past grabbed power and became dictator instead of strengthening the democratic insinuations. He said that when the politicians got opportunity, they changed their dimension and did not feel the emotions and problems of the people. They come into power with the votes of the people but afterwards they forgot them, he added.
"We did not give relief to the people but create problems for them. Today we are observing the pathetic condition of Pakistan Railways, PIA, Pakistan Steel Mills and other institutions. Today, the country looks like a desert,' he said. Hashmi said, "our leadership made the politicians accountable to themselves instead of the people of Pakistan. We have to change our attitude for new Pakistan. I always gave good suggestions to PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif. Today, I don't want to stay in a room when the nation is faced with difficult time,' he said.
He said that he was in favour that assemblies should complete tenure. But we should go for new elections to overcome the crisis faced by the nation, which is a constitutional way," he added. Meanwhile Mamoona Hashmi, daughter of Javed Hashmi, also resigned from her National Assembly seat.
