Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has spent billion of rupees during 2011 on the ongoing mega projects for the betterment of stakeholder and development of the Country. After USOAP audit, PCAA is now recognised as one of the top aviation in the World, a press release issued here on Friday said.
The growth and development of PCAA which continue even faster in the leadership of Director General PCAA Air Marshal Khalid Chaudary (Retd.) and Deputy Director General Air Vice Marshal Janaid Ahmed Siddiqui. The team of universal oversight safety audit programme (USOA) completed the safety audit of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority this year. They have confirmed that the regulatory body of the PCAA is definitely among the best in the world and its documentation procedure is not only according to the prescribed international standards but some of its reforms can be termed as an example for other countries of the world.
Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has planned starting up-gradation of existing and construction of new airport projects. About Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIAP) Project, the CAA said this new project is the first green field airport project of Pakistan and its construction is expected to be completed by June 2013 and will play a major role not only in the national but also in international aviation sector.
The New Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIAP) Airport will be a state of the art airport capable of handing A-380 operation with modular facilities for both domestic and international passengers and cargo for which respective annual handling capacities will gradually grow from 6.5 million passengers and 100,000 metric ton cargo to 25 million passengers and 150,000 metric tons cargo, respectively, at par with international standards and shall serve as a major hub for all aviation activities in the region.
About the up-gradation of Multan International Airport, it presently B-737 and ATR 500 aircrafts are being operated from the airport. The airport is almost landlocked in the East and South surrounded by structure habitations. The facilities including terminal building in use are inadequate. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has therefore, planned up-gradation of the existing infrastructure at the airport for B-747 / B-777 operation on modern line to support the 21st century aircraft technology and to meet operational requirements of next 15-20 years.
The Government of Pakistan has accorded approval for the establishment of "New Gawadar International Airport (NGIA)" in Balochistan through Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and grant of $17.5 million from the Sultanate of Oman. M/s Nespak-ADP was hired as Design Consultant for the Project. Land measuring 4,300 acres located along coastal highway has been acquired and handed over to CAA in May, 2008. PC-1 amounting to Rs 7675 million along with master plan was approved by ECNEC.
PCAA has already launched up-gradation/augmentation of existing infrastructure precision approach and landing/navigational aid system as well as Radar network to facilitate more efficient and secured operations of aircraft in Pakistan airspace. The construction of New Airport at Thar (Islamkot) is also in progress. During 2011 DG PCAA promoted 550 staff members and nominated 60 officers and staff members for the award of DG PCAA Commendation Certificates for their industrious services to the organisation-PR
