Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday huge investment was being made in education and health sectors. He was addressing the postgraduate students of University of Health Sciences (UHS) through video conferencing facility after inaugurating high tech Resource Centre in Murree on Friday.
He further said that funds have been allocated for the provision of foreign scholarships to the deserving students, computer labs in all high schools, laptops to high achievers and establishment of Danish Schools. The chief minister further said that the agreement for purchasing 100,000 laptops for the brilliant students of the province had been signed and first shipment would arrive before the end of next month. He added that laptops would be distributed on merit.
According to him, the Resource Centre Murree was a state-of-the-art research facility, which was connected internationally with all major digital libraries. The major objective of the Research Centre was to provide ideal environment to doctoral/post-doctoral students for research activities.
Talking to the chief minister, Faiza Yasmeen, a UHS student of MSc medical laboratory technology, appreciated the initiatives taken by the government for the promotion and development of health and education sectors in Punjab. She thanked the chief minister for approving 50 scholarships for UHS postgraduate students. She said that students were anxiously waiting for the laptops, which would be beneficial in their research activities.
She further said that UHS, for the first time in the country, had initiated masters level programmes in various disciplines of allied health sciences and nursing and requested the chief minister to take personal interest in the career structure of these professionals.
The chief minister appreciated the role of UHS in medical education and said that he would hold a meeting on health issues in a couple of days. Earlier, UHS Vice Chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar welcomed the chief minister and introduced the Ph.D and M.Phil students to him.
