Speakers at a seminar urged the government to allocate sufficient funds for education, health and social development sectors by slashing defence budget. The seminar was organised under the auspices of Aman Ittihad at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday.
Notable speakers included Idress Kamal from Aman, Nusarat Ara of South Asia Partnership (SAP), Dr Sarfaraz Khan, Director Area Study Centre, University of Peshawar, Sharein Javed of Aurat Foundation, Nazaar from Khwend Kor, Professor Ejaz from University of Peshawar, Sameena Afridi of CRSD.
The speakers urged the government to play its constructive role for forging unity and tolerance among all segments of society. They said that the present government had failed to deliver. The poor governance system created enormous food insecurity, and stoppage of sectoral development in the country. The impeding energy, gas shortage, inflation, deflation and financial liabilities are the major impediment in sustainability and viability of the gross domestic products (GDP).
They stressed the need for taking proactive steps for provision of equal education, health facilities and protection of basic human rights in the society. The speakers urged the government to focus on key national issues and active measures for resolution of problems confronting the downtrodden people in the country. In order to provide all basic facilities, they said the creation of welfare state was a must.
Talking about the role of Aman Ittihad, the speakers said that the organisation had played vital role for strengthening democracy. The speakers said that the society's basic mission was to give hope to downtrodden people of the country. The society members announced that they would observe solidarity day on Sunday (today) in the country. They further informed that mass awareness rallies would be held on the day in more than 140 various locations.
