A police check post and some three motorcycles were set ablaze at Shanti Nagar on Tuesday when Anti Encroachment Cell (AEC) with the assistance of law enforcers tried to retrieve an encroached land in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town. According to police sources, the law enforcers faced stiff resistance from the suspected encroachers, who had established permanent structures on the encroached land.
They said the land grabbers opened indiscriminate firing on the law enforcers besides pelting stones when they approached to conduct an operation to retrieve the land. Meanwhile, the land grabbers also set Ghulam Hussain Shaheed police post and three motorcycles on fire. Police said that around 16 acres of land, which was reserved for the establishment of a Co-operative Housing Society in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town near Dalmia in the jurisdiction of Aziz Bhatti police station, had been encroached.
However, the alleged encroachers refused to leave the place as they claimed to have bought the land. DSP Abu Talha said that the encroachers attacked them when they reached the spot on the directives of Court to evacuate the land. He further said that a new operation would be launched in this regard.
