Punjab University: ASA condemns search committee's recommendation

President of the Academic Staff Association (ASA) Punjab University Professor Dr Mahar Saeed strongly condemned the search committee and their recommended short listed names for the PU Vice-Chancellor seat. He was addressing the press conference along with the Secretary of the ASA Iftikahr Tarar here on Friday.
Mahar Saeed alleged that due to the mismanagement of the PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran varsity has came on number five from its previous ranking of number four. He also said that Punjab University teaching community strongly condemned those elements that are propagating that PU has reached on number five in ranking and said that it is still on number four and those who are propagating totally wrong.
It is pertinent to mention here that there is a tussle going on between Pro Jamaat-e-Islami teachers and Teacher's Front (TF) a group who supports PU VC. PU ASA's President also alleged that PU VC was involved in mismanagement and he is not capable to handle the PU affairs. Dr Maher Saeed said that they clearly denied the recommendation of the Dr Mujahid Kamran for the PU VC, however, he avoided to comment on the status of Dr Zafer Ali Jaodun as both belongs to the teachers wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
On the other hand Punjab University Syndicate members in their joint statement termed these allegations as baseless. Shumayla Gull a syndicate member said that the whole teachers' community strongly condemns the propaganda created by ASA against the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran. There is no legal standing of this dummy ASA after December 31, 2011. They and their members are completely rejected by teachers' community in syndicate elections. Now they are under immense pressure due to short-listing of Dr Mujahid Kamran by research committee, as he is the only vice chancellor who has controlled all their violent and illegal activities.
These non-professional academicians have no right to talk about the rights of teachers' community, as they have not conducted a single general body meeting to discuss the teachers' issues during the entire tenure of one year. He appreciated the search committee for short listing the name of Dr Mujahid Kamran for the post of VC.
