Law, order situation: suggestions by opposition to be given due consideration, says Punjab minister
Punjab Law Minister Sanaullah in 32nd session of Punjab Assembly here on Friday, summing up the law and order debate, assured the opposition as well as the treasury benches that to improve the law and order scenario heed would be paid to their suggestions.
Abdul Rehman stated that without point scoring people and police both should endeavour to improve the law and order scenario. A legislator stated that there were "a good number of Ajmal Paharis in the Province, who were roaming around here, and added that "it is easy" for absconders to get relief from the law. Therefore, it was a big obstacle in improving law & order situation in the province, she pointed out.
Sajida Mir said that a new structure of crime curbing authority should be made in the province. She added that if a segment of police would stop taking bribe, crime would automatically decrease. Mohsin Laghari said that on the structure and performance of Border Military Police, things should improve in the province.
He said that this law enforcement unit had arrested a suicide bomber in the premises of Sakhi Sarwar but till now no award had been bestowed upon them. Samina Khawar said that reports given by law minister regarding crime were not correct. She demanded that improvement be brought in structure of patrolling police.
A legislator said that improvement in law and order in the province was evident as compared to other provinces. He appreciated Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and higher police authorities in this connection. In Revenue and Colonies Department, the house was told that there were 19 patwaris in Pak-Pattan who were there on seats longer than three year period. The minister said that there had been no training of patwaris in the province since 1996.
The House was told that Provincial Disaster Management Authority and District Disaster Management Authority had been established in Punjab. Sanaullah said that Emergency Services 1122 had been established in each district of the province. He said that 111677 registries have been made in Gujranwala (urban-1, urban-2, Saddar and Rural) in period January1, 2008 to September 2010. Four adjournment motions were dealt and kept pending during. The House was adjourned for Monday to meet at 3 pm.
