Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik rejected the demand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for early elections and said that it is a conspiracy to derail democracy. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Passport Office Jaranwala on Saturday, he said that the government declines all demands of PML-N regarding immediate elections because democracy was restored in the country after a long struggle.
He said that PPP has come into power with people's support and it would complete its 5-year constitutional tenure. He blamed that PML-N Chief contacted other departments despite he knows the supremacy of parliament while some political parties want to establish military courts. All these are tactics against the democracy; the minister said and added that PPP government is making efforts to provide jobs to young besides fulfilling its promise of "Roti, Kapra, Makan" (bread, cloth and house).
He said that the terrorists and extremists wanted to destabilise national economy in addition to chocking the process of national progress and prosperity, but the PPP government is successfully encountering them at all forums and it has also made big achievements in connection with restoration of law and order in troubled areas. "Earlier where the people were reluctant to send their children to schools, now educational institutions are being established there besides initiating a series of development projects", he added.
He said that the PPP government is utilising all available resources to disseminate the fruits of democracy to general public in addition to resolve their genuine problems at grass-roots level. Malik said that PPP believes in people's welfare and betterment, that's why, whenever it came into power, it had to face conspiracies hatched by anti-democratic elements. He said that PML-N claimed that the president would never transfer his powers to the parliament but the president foiled all these conspiracies by transferring his powers to the parliament. Now these people are infuriating Balochis against the government.
"PPP government is ready for talks with all those in Balochistan who accept Pakistan's green flag and greet it. However, no option is available for anti-Pakistan elements", Malik added. He said that Pakistan is passing through a critical stage. The people should stand with the PPP government to save mother homeland from anti-Pakistan elements, he said. He said that PPP government has initiated Balochistan Rights programme. It gave NFC Award and reinstated a large number of government employees. He said that PPP government is struggling to provide all basic facilities at the doorstep of the people. The minister announced that he along with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would soon come to Jaranwala again and announce development packages for this area. Later the Federal Interior Minister also addressed a workers' convention at the Dera of MNA Malik Nawab Sher Waseer where a special cake was also cut to celebrate the 84th birth anniversary of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
