The 36th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoGs) of the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) has unanimously decided to ask the Federal Government for a charter to set up the "Federal University of law and Judicial Administration", Islamabad, for the promotion of judicial and legal education of international standards in the country.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, presided over the meeting, said a press release received here on Saturday. FJA Judge-In charge (admin) Justice Shakirullah Jan, FJA Judge-In charge (Academics) Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Judge Supreme Court Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair Senator Moula Bakhsh Chandio, Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed, Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Mushir Alam, Attorney General for Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq, Director General FJA Parvaiz Ali Chawla, Federal Secretary for Finance Dr Waqar Masood, Registrar, Supreme Court Dr Faqir Hussain and Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan Habib-ur-Rehman Shaikh attended the meeting. Administrative, financial and academic as hiring of FJA, faculty and capacity building of the judicial officers and that of the court personnel were discussed in the meeting.
"It is imperative to groom professional-oriented and well-rounded young judicial officers. We may have to arrange their trainings both in and abroad so as to have inventive and active judicial officers, we have to produce judges for the future and those well-trained judges in the long run, be elevated in the superior courts," Justice Iftikhar said.
