Punjab University College of Art & Design organised a memorial reference for Ms Anwar Afzal, former Chairperson of Department of Fine Arts and one of the pioneer faculty member of Anna Molka Gallery of the college. College Principal, Professor Dr Rahat Naveed Masud, faculty members and family members of Mrs Afzal, her two sons Mobeen Afzal and Imran Afzal, were present on the occasion.
Prominent artists, art critics, intellectuals and art historians shared their thoughts while few of Mrs Afzal's students shared their memories of a sweet and affectionate teacher. Dr Ajaz Anwar, Ms Ana Moka Ahmad's daughters Ms Zara David and Tahira Ayaz also shared their memories on the occasion.
Ms Shahnaz Malhi, Dr Shaukat Mahmood, Javed Iqbal, Ms Zahra Aslam, Shahnawaz Zaidi, Ms Jamila Zaidi and Ms Sabiha Haider also spoke on the occasion. Moreover, A presentation covering life and works of Ms Anwar Afzal was also exhibited while Nadeem Alam read a paper in this context. Ms Afzal was born in 1923. She studied arts at the Fine Arts Department from 1941 to 1944 and joined Lady Maclagan Training College Lahore as lecturer in 1945. Later, in 1947, she was appointed as lecturer at the department where, along-with Anna Molka Ahmad, she nurtured the first ever generation of Pakistani artists.-PR
