The department of transport, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched automation project for the computerisation of the route permits and bus stands' licenses in the province. The automation of the transport department was an annual development programme (ADP) project for financial year 2011-12 would cost an amount of Rs 45.673 million. The project will be completed in a period of three years.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein, who also holds the portfolio of transport, launched the project in a ceremony held here in the Directorate of Transport. On this occasion, Secretary Transport, Azmat Hanif Aurakzai, Secretaries, PTA, RTA, Director Transport and a large number of local transporters were present.
Giving presentation on the project, an official of the department said that the system is based on centralised architecture consisting of application software, hardware, networking and communication enabling Province wide connectivity on a progressive basis providing real time access to data to the system users. In the first phase, he said the transport authorities situated at the provincial headquarter are being covered and within a short span of time all the remaining authorities at the divisional headquarters will be connected to the system through the implementation of approved scheme of motor vehicle fitness certification.
Under the system, a one window operation of route permits, cancellation of route permits, first fitness certificate, body building/workshop license and its renewal license, and issuance bus stand license, good forwarding agency license will be provided. It will also hear cases submitted to the transport department relating to PTA and RTA.
Furthermore, under the system the department will also maintain accidental data for compensation tribunal and will introduce windscreen RFID stickers/tag for the vehicles. Speaking on the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein said that the automation and computerisation of the department will help promote transparency, eliminate corruption and bring an end to duplication.
He said that when they took over there was no transport system and the department was running only through a clerk. He said that in manual system corruption was rampant, record was missing and people were facing problems, adding despite hectic efforts they could not bring improvement in the system.
