Allah has given us so many natural minerals and resources, such as gas, oil, coal, gold, jewel stones and water in the shape of glaciers and rivers. We are a fortunate nation that we have all these things. But the nation has been unlucky in finding a sincere government to resolve its basic problems.
If the government wants, it can plan for Pakistan's debts and national growth but it was never the priority of the government. We have rich gas reserves in Sui and in Dera Bugti of Balochistan and Muridke in Punjab.
Karachi's Sea View is a windy beach. It is an ideal location for the purpose of generation of hundreds of megawatts electricity from wind, but we have no plans to do so. We can also generate electricity from coal but we are not doing so although we have huge reserves of coal.
Karachi is the commercial and economic hub of Pakistan and generates approximately 70 percent of the total revenue of the country. But, the federal government doesn't seem serious to pay attention towards the problems of this mega city.
The domestic consumers have become mentally sick and lose their temperaments usually because in winter hot water becomes an essential need of everyone.
Commercially gas shortage is another problem. How can the industrialists raise their production and why would they pay wages to their workers who are not able to do anything without gas. So the worker is also waiting for gas. Gas cylinders are costly. Many employers fired their workers as they incurred losses in their businesses due to decline in production. This led to an increase in unemployment.
The government introduced a 14 percent gas price hike, which means another burden on the poor, already struggling for survival.
The Religious Affairs Minister Syed Khurshid Shah in the National Assembly tried to downplay the staggering 14 percent gas tariff hike as 'not too much'.
