Lahore High Court Chief Justice here Monday admonished a dean and took serious notice of irresponsible behaviour of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences officials of not giving admission to a disable student who had secured the first position in the merit list, for the last five years.
The CJ directed Dean faculty of UVAS Professor Naseem Ahmad to find a solution how the student, Hafiz Ammar, could be accommodate in 10th semester of DVM course in UVAS, Lahore. The CJ observed "Corrupt and idle government officials have destroyed the entire system of the country."
Professor Naseem appeared before the CJ for explaining the reasons behind the discrimination made by university's officials with Ammar. CJ got irked at the time when he repeatedly asked Professor Ahmad to explain the matter that why the name of Ammar was dropped from the merit-list despite the fact the he had secured first position. CJ Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked, "I want resignations of those officers who took bribe to accommodate their favourite ones against the seat of Ammar. You have destroyed the life of a disabled boy."
He further observed the officers of UVAS were so cruel that they did not pay any heed about the future of the disabled guy, and their apathy forced Ammar to study in a city much far from his house here. CJ Sh Azmat Saeed said that the corrupt officials should be sent to jails.
Professor Naseem apologised to the CJ and requested the court to allow him some time to resolve the matter. Hafiz Syed Muhmmad Ammar, a disable student, had filed the petition in 2007 stating that he had secured 817 marks in intermediate (FSc), and applied for graduation in UVAS. He secured top position in merit list displayed by the varsity administration but the officials of the university dropped his name without giving any reason. Ammar said the officials of UVAS gave admission against bribery to those whose marks were below than him. He, then, took admission in Bahauddin Zakariya University and completed successfully eight semesters of the DVM course because his petition was not being heard timely by the Lahore High Court.
