Punjab Law Minister Sanaullah Khan has said that the Punjab government is in favour of establishment of a High Court bench at Faisalabad, and serious efforts are being made following the constitutional process in this regard. He was talking to newsmen here on Monday at District Bar Association after having inaugurated various uplift projects for development and renovation of the district courts premises.
MPA Muhammad Islam, President of Bar Association Fawad Ahmed Cheema, Secretary Haris Amin, and other office-bearers and members of Bar Association were also present on the occasion. The minister said that the provincial government was committed for establishment of a High Court bench here, and Chief Minister Shahbaz had sent a reference about eight months back to the Lahore High Court Chief Justice for consultation regarding setting up high court bench at Faisalabad, which had been pending due to a writ petition, and now that writ petition had been disposed of, and Punjab government had sent another reference for reminding about the matter.
He said that after positive reply of Lahore High Court, the provincial cabinet would approve the decision of establishment of high court bench and the matter would be referred to the Governor for signature, who is bound to put his signatures within 10 days under constitution otherwise the matter would be deemed to be approved automatically.
The Minister said that the Punjab govt was giving priority to the welfare and development of the Bar Association and a number of development projects had been completed for providing conducive professional environment to the lawyers. He announced construction of underpass on the road between district courts and sessions court and said that the DCO had been directed to complete the estimate in this regard and necessary funds would be provided immediately after completion of the budget estimates. He said that Rs 17.8 million had been provided for the projects of pavements of the streets, construction of roads and parking area, establishment of Bar Dispensary, installation of street lights and rehabilitation of sewerage system in the premises of district courts. He hoped that the longstanding problems of the lawyers' community would be redressed after completion of these projects. He also assured of extension of lawyers' housing colony to accommodate the newcomer lawyers.
President of DBA Fawad Cheema thanked the minister and MPA Islam for providing funds for beautification and the development of the district courts. He also appreciated the co-operation and keen interest of DCO Naseem Sadiq for timely initiating the development projects in district courts. Earlier, the Law Minister inaugurated the projects of construction of roads, canteen and parking areas with funds of Rs 7 million. He also laid foundation stone of Bar Dispensary and sewerage system at a cost of Rs 10.8 million.
