An overwhelming majority (62 percent) of people while showing their confidence in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has said that the court is not overstepping its mandate. According to a survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 62 percent of the respondents replied that they are supporting the SC decisions, while 24 percent of the surveyed people did not reply while only 14 percent disagreed with the decision made by the apex court.
"A national representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked 'Some people think that Supreme Court is taking decisions by over-stepping its mandate, which it should not do, in your opinion, is the Court taking actions that are in its mandate or it is overstepping the mandate?"
The current Gallup Survey has revealed that the support for SC actions has risen by 5 percent during the last two years. The survey stated, "The view that the Supreme Court is working within its mandate has gone up by 5 percent during the last two years. In a similar survey conducted in 2010, those saying the Supreme Court remained within its mandate was 57 percent, 18 percent had opposed and 25 percent did not give any view". The recent survey was carried out by Gallup Pakistan affiliate encompassing a sample of 2723 men and women from rural and urban areas of all the four provinces from January 01 to January 07, 2012.
