Bringing elite class into documented regime: DG I&I to get complete data from Nadra

The Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has decided to acquire complete data of wealthy persons from the National and Database Registration Authority (Nadar) within a week to bring elite class in the documented regime.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Friday that the Director General I&I, Inland Revenue made a presentation regarding progress on broadening of tax base at the last Chief Commissioners Conference. DG I&I highlighted the importance of data retrieval and its utilisation for broadening the tax base.
The DG I&I, Inland Revenue presented the critical performance review up to November 30, 2011 and new initiatives taken in this regard. The withholding statements in broadening of tax base and development of trekker system was also discussed during the Chief Commissioners Conference. DG I&I, Inland Revenue said that the work on entire data will be completed by January 10, 2012.
Based on detailed discussion, it was decided that the complete data from NADRA is to be obtained within one week. Secondly, this data is to be effectively used for broadening of tax base. All Chief Commissioners promised to achieve the targets assigned by the Board for broadening of tax base through booking new taxpayers, sources added.
In the past, the FBR had utilised the data of the Nadra and Board's database for discovering new taxpayers. Besides, data of Nadra, the FBR has also relied on its own database and third-party information. Now, the FBR will once again approach Nadra for obtaining more data of wealthy persons under the ongoing documentation.
According to sources, DG I&I Inland Revenue further informed the field formations that a quick action has to be taken for documentation of the wealthy persons to demonstrate the will of the government. The un-documented persons cannot escape in the presence of the authentic data obtained from Nadra and strict legal action be initiated against non-compliant persons as admissible under the law.
