Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) is organising a lecture on the topic of "Interpretation of non-invasive cardiac testing" for general medical practitioners on Friday (tomorrow). According to the hospital's spokesman, Dr Faiz-ur-Rehman, who will be the presenter on this occasion, is a Diplomat American Board of Interventional Cardiology and is currently practising as a visiting consultant cardiologist here in Shaukat Khanum Hospital.
Patients with cardiac disease are ever increasing in Pakistan. Non cardiologists often face the challenge of dealing with these patients initially until the diagnosis is established. Thus it is important for the clinicians to have a basic knowledge of how to use and interpret non-invasive cardiac testing and when to refer these patients to a specialist.
SKMCH&RC is the only hospital in this region to be fully accredited by American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) to organise CME activities for health care professionals. Thus, it will be a unique opportunity for those who are interested in their professional growth. Family practitioners, internists, post graduate trainees in medicine and medical students doing clinical rotation are the target audience of this "free for all" interactive session, he said.
