The officials at the defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA) plot transfer section in connivance with some brokers have allegedly prepared fake documents of dozens of plots in Korangi, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and North Nazimabad on old dates so as to mint money, it was reliably learnt.
Sources said on Thursday that plot transfer section of the defunct KDA had been closed in 1999 but surprisingly it was still operational and was engaged in transferring plots without any legal authority. Sources said that under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance-2001 (SLGO), it was made mandatory that possession of the KDA plots could only be given through an auction.
It has also been learnt that the people visiting revenue department of the CDGK were seen disturbed after failing to receive verification of their land documents as the record files were said to have gone missing. "We lost many files after re-promulgation of the SLGO-2001 and subsequently restoration of the Commissionerate System," official sources admitted blaming negligence of the concerned staff.
They said that the lower staff of the department including 'qasids' and 'naib-qasids' despite enjoying smart salaries against working for only two hours mostly remained absent from their duties. When this scribe visited different sections of revenue department of the defunct CDGK, many files were scattered on the floor, but the officer there was busy in giving orders to his subordinates.
When asked about the missing record, an official said that an inquiry in this regard was underway to locate the record and fix responsibility of the negligence. People visiting the revenue department called for strict action against the responsible officials.
