Under the RAHA programme construction of 10 major roads at a cost of Rs 294.68 and nine major water and sanitation projects at a cost of Rs 60.14 million has been completed in districts of Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi and Haripur with the financial assistance of Government of Japan.
RAHA programme has achieved its last year's target on time. UNHCR, UNDP and GIZ officials held a meeting on Thursday in Special Development Unit (SDU) conference room to share and discuss information about the progress of the RAHA programme being implemented under the SDU P&D Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and UNDP.
National Project Director RAHA, Roohullah Khan chaired the meeting, which was attended by Gwen LE Couster, Programme Officer UNHCR, Yoshimi Satta, Senior Operation Co-ordinator UNHCR, Abdul Waheed, Associate Programme Officer UNHCR and Saleem Chisthi, National Project Co-ordinator UNDP-RAHA, Provincial Programme Manager UNDP-RAHA Liaqat Ali Khan and GIZ representative Gohar Ayub.More than Over 700 persons, including women have been provided training in different skills so far and now they were earning livelihood for their families.
The meeting was also informed that under the European Union funds, the RAHA programme has launched fresh need assessment for prioritisation and identification of major infrastructures schemes in target areas. Social mobilisation in target community was also in progress and work on construction of new CPI schemes was in progress under EU funding programme.
The UNHCR team appreciated the progress, transparency and quality of work under the RAHA programme. The meeting also appreciated the role of government functionaries for implementating the RAHA programme. National Project Director RAHA programme, Roohullah Khan lauded the role of the EU for the uplift and prosperity of people of Pakistan particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
