The spree of targeted killing continued in the city as three more persons including an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) fell victims in separate incidents at various parts of the metropolis here on Friday. According to police and rescue sources, an activist of MQM was shot dead while other sustained injuries near Qatar Hospital in the limits of Orangi Town police station.
The incident took place near Qatar Hospital Sector 1 Orangi Town, where unidentified armed riders targeted Arif Baig son of Nabi Baig and Tahir, 28, son of Ghulam Sarwar. Resultantly, both victims received severe bullet injuries and were initially shifted to Qatar Hospital and later moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Arif succumbed to his injures during treatment.
Police said both victims were active workers of MQM unit-132 Orangi Town sector and at the time of incident both victims were busy in talking at pan shop situated near Qatar Hospital. Following the said incident, tension engulfed several parts of the locality where all commercial and social activities came to standstill in protest against this targeted killing.
Later police handed over Arif's body to the heirs. Police said Tahir was an estate agent and running his agency at the same area where he resided. No case was registered till filing of this report. A bullet-riddled body of a man was found near Crown Cinema in the limits of Kalri police station. The victim, who was later identified as Nawaz, 30, son of Yaqoob, a resident of Ranchore Line near old Jubilee Cinema, was found from Maripur Road near Crown Cinema Lyari.
Police said they had also recovered a TT pistol and a bike near his body and added that the victim was hit by three bullets. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico legal formalities. Police suspected that the victim seemed criminal and his other accomplices might have killed him over money dispute. Later police handed over his body to the heirs. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Another tortured body was recovered from Gulistan Jauhar in the precincts of Sharah Faisal police station. The victim, who was later identified as Amjad Masih, 40, son of Aziz Masih, a resident of Bhattai Colony Safora Goth, was found from the bushes located in Block 13 of Gulistan Jauhar. Police said that unidentified culprits killed him after applying severe torture on his body and then threw the same at the said place and ran away.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem and later handed over his body to the heirs. Police suspected that he might have been murdered over personal ground and added that the victim was drug addict. No case was registered till filing of this report.
