Inter-Collegiate Bilingual Declamation Contest 2012 was held at Defence Authority Degree College here on Thursday. Students of more than 18 reputed educational institutions of the metropolis participated in the contest. Minister of Alternate Energy Muhammad Shaharyar Mahar, who is also an ex-student of the College, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Shaharyar Mahar said that oratory skill was an important facet of human personality which was essential for success in every field of life. He said young generation had tremendous potential which was evident from the powerful and dynamic speeches delivered by the young talented students in the contest. He appreciated the high standard of speeches made by the students and observed that participants demonstrated that they were fully aware of the contemporary challenges faced by the nation.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Commodore Imran Ansari (Retd) said that development of public speaking skills was an important ingredient of personality development. He said that declamation contests and debates provided students an effective forum for enlightenment of mind and development of leadership qualities. He said the college provided intellectually vibrant academic environment to students to make them capable, dynamic and enlightened individuals of society. Lieutenant Cdr Zawwar Hussain (Retd) and Professor Dr Sajida Zaki were judges for English Declamation and Professor Seema Siraj and Professor Karan Singh were judges for Urdu declamation.
The overall coveted trophy of the Declamation Contest 2012 was clinched by the students of University of Karachi. In the English declamation, Cadet Waqas Sikandar of Pakistan Marine Academy secured the first position, Habib Feerozi of Karachi University stood second and Tooba Khan of PECHS Government Girls' College was declared third. In the Urdu declamation, Hasan Hameed of Bahria College stood first, Qurat-ul-Ain Leghari of University of Karachi got the second position and Syeda Umme-Ayman of Defence Authority Degree College For Women Ph-VIII was declared third.-PR
