The Central Shoora of the Jamaat-I-Islami, Pakistan has called for immediate announcement of general elections under an impartial government and an autonomous Election Commission to enable the masses elect their new leadership for resolving their problems. A resolution adopted by the Shoora in its meeting chaired by the JI Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan, said that the four year period of the present government had been a total failure and it could not be expected to do miracles during the fifth year.
However, it warned that any unconstitutional step on the excuse of the government failure would not be tolerated. Through another resolution, the JI central advisory body condemned the misuse of the state institutions and public exchequer by the PPP government for party programmes and objectives.
It deplored that the Presidency, which was the symbol of the federation, was being used as party headquarters.
It said the government had lost its credentials on account of its misdeeds and incompetence.
Through another resolution, the Shoora urged the parliament and superior judiciary to take notice of the thousands of missing persons, the people who had been lifted by the intelligence agencies unlawfully, and demanded their immediate recovery.
The other resolution expressed complete solidarity with the freedom struggle of the Kashmiris and condemned the continued Indian occupation over the valley and its gross human rights violations.
It said that despite Pakistan's so called Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) by Islamabad, India was not ready for a meaningful dialogue on the Kashmir issue.
The Shoora appealed to the government and the people of Pakistan to observe the February 5 as Kashmir Solidarity Day in a befitting manner to renew their commitment to the Kashmiris' just cause. A resolution on the Tribal Areas called for making full compensation for the losses caused due to the military operations. It stressed that Tribal Areas be brought under the parliament through an amendment in the FCR.
It demanded that the affected people of the Khyber agency be registered and given due compensation. It further said that troops be called back from the tribal areas and ties with the Taliban be normalised through dialogue. The independent media should be allowed to go into the tribal areas to know the facts, it said.
