Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is a leading international technology group with a tradition that spans over 150 years of business. Founded in 1852, G&D initially specialized in the printing of banknotes and production of security paper.
In the 1970s, G&D was the first company ever to develop an automatable banknote incorporating a high-level security feature, as well as automatic banknote processing systems. G&D is now a world leader in this sector, and heads the market for printing plants, central banks and commercial cash centers.
In the fiscal year 2010 G&D recorded a headcount of over 10,000 employees and generated sales of 1.7 billion euros. G&D is headquartered in Munich, Germany, and has 61 subsidiaries and joint ventures in 32 countries world-wide.
Today, G&D is a global leader and pioneering innovator in the production and processing of banknotes and banknote paper, security documents, identification systems and smartcard-based solutions. As an end-to-end provider of mobile security applications, G&D develops and sells hardware, software, and services for banks, mobile network operators, public transportation companies, business enterprises, and OEM.
And although innovation in the world of payment has never been more dynamic and fast-moving than today amid all the change, cash remains as popular as ever - and looks set to remain so for the foreseeable future. No other payment method has yet challenged the convenience and control that cash offers.
As a leading innovator and pioneer in the industry, G&D is one of the world's foremost providers of banknote security technologies and cash handling solutions and services.
"We increase the value of our customers' assets by strengthening the security of their products and services while also cutting their costs. We achieve this by offering a wide range of state-of-the-art banknote security technologies and end-to-end cash handling solutions that cover the entire lifecycle of a banknote." explains Nader Kashgari, Regional Sales Director at G&D.
G&D's operations here involve developing, manufacturing and supplying end-to-end solutions for the quality control and mechanical processing of banknotes. The product portfolio covers every performance category throughout the entire cash cycle. The BPS(r) line is primarily employed for processing large volumes in banknote printing plants, central banks and commercial processing centers. Desktop systems such as Numeron(r) support processing activities in the back offices of commercial banks and in smaller processing centers. Specially designed software solutions such as CompassCM(r) integrate the various processes used by partners in the cash cycle for tracking and balancing deposits and managing inventory in the vault.
"G&D possesses longstanding experience in systems development as well as deep knowledge of cash cycle processes and interfaces. This knowledge can and will now be made available for the financial industry in Pakistan." says Nader Kashgari.
Commercial banks, cash-in-transit companies, retailers and vending machine operators had a dream about banknote processing, namely to be able to check, count and sort large quantities of banknotes whilst keeping the associated investment to a minimum. Now the Numeron from Giesecke & Devrient is making that dream come true. This highly developed and reliable system above all optimizes those business procedures in which small to medium-sized volumes of banknotes have to be processed within the shortest possible time. With a processing rate of 20 banknotes per second, the Numeron has set a standard for others to follow. Further, it already made a name for itself where security, speed and return on investment are concerned.
For the first time, Numeron enables users to automatically and reliably denominate, authenticate, verify the fitness of and simultaneously sort banknotes at the point of sale. Previously, these functions could only be performed economically at large cash centers.
The Numeron embodies the concept of a complete currency processing solution whilst at the same time meeting user requirements for a cost-efficient, space-saving and flexible system. It's huge commercial success with more than 16.000 units sold proves once again that G&D has met the customer needs with its compact, fast, reliable Numeron system.
"The Pakistani banking sector has been growing rapidly over the last years. Coupled with an increased volume of banknotes in circulation and a high reliance on cash payments the need for more efficient cash processing systems is becoming more and more obvious. We look forward to a close co-operation with our local partner to tap the potential of the Pakistani market and to support the financial institutions in their further strive for automation and efficiency in the cash cycle." says Nader Kashgari.
