Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Commerce and Industries, Syed Ahmad Hussein Shah, has said that the provincial government by the end of current calendar year will establish its Board of Investment (BoI) and will restructure Sarhad Development Authority (SDA) to include private sector on its Board of Directors (BoDs).
The provincial minister was speaking on the occasion of unveiling of the strategy for the development of industrial and tourism sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The strategy prepared with assistance of USAID and presented in two ''Vision'' documents contains plans for short and long-term economic development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Those who present on the occasion were included Senior Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bashir Ahmad Bilour and former presidents of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Usman Bashir Bilour, Ghazanfar Bilour, Adeel Rauf, Riaz Arshad, Malik Zahid Hussein, officials of USAID, industries and tourism departments. The provincial minister said that the government is working on preparation of new industrial policy and the vision document will be made part of it. He said that the government since coming into power is working along with the business community of the province, and taking them on board in all decisions.
He said that with the support and co-operation of business community, Peshawar would not be made third largest industrial city, but number one city of the country. He said that the provincial government is working on the establishment of various industrial estates. He said that in Karak industrial estate gas would be provided for power generation for the industrial units. Similarly, he said that 10-mega surplus electricity of Malakand-III hydropower project would be provided on cheap rate to the units in Palai Industrial Estate, Malakand. He said that the area is tax-free and the provision of cheap electricity will further attract investors to the area.
