In a bank fraud case, Accountability Court Rawalpindi on Thursday awarded a three-year imprisonment to Mian Khurram Rasool, ex Media Advisor to Prime Minister for Northern Television. Earlier, A special court for banking offences in Lahore on Thursday granted interim bail to Mian Khurram Rasool, a former media co-ordinator of Prime Minister, some hours after a division bench of the Lahore High Court denied him protective bail for his failure to appear before the court.
Khuram is a prime accused in a multimillion rupee Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) quota fraud case and the Supreme Court had directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest him. He was also involved in a bank fraud case made by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The bureau alleged that Khuram Rasool in collusion with other accused fraudulently opened fake letters of credit and received a sum of Rs 71.938 million from the then PICIC and now NIB Bank.
The banking offence judge Amjad Pervez granted him pre-arrest bail till February 02 subject to production of bail bonds worth Rs one million. The judge also summoned case record from the FIA on the next date of hearing. Earlier in the morning, the LHC bench headed by Justice Sheikh Najamul Hassan dismissed Rasool's petition for a protective bail as he did not appear before the court.
