Punjab Governor Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa on Thursday said that Punjab government is responsible for the deaths caused by the contaminated drugs, which hitherto claimed over hundred lives in Punjab.
Talking to media after addressing the inaugural session of the two-day international conference on Toxicology organised by the University of Veterinary Sciences department of pharmacology and toxicology in collaboration with University of Cambridge UK, department of clinical neuroscience, sponsored by Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Khosa said that there is no health minister in the province and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif is running 18 ministries. He also said that even the ablest and most competent person couldn't run 18 ministries single-handedly, adding Punjab is being ruled over in the fashion of Mughal emperors.
Earlier, while addressing the conference governor said that Pakistan is facing tremendous environmental problems including air, water, soil pollution due to degradation of natural resources and disruption of ecosystem. He said environmental pollution was creating hurdles in achieving economic empowerment.
Punjab Governor explained that government was promoting public health and food safety related polices to ensure the safer and better environment for the general public and taking positive step to overcome the toxicants. He added that excessive usage of chemical and pesticide was being posing threats for human as well as animals. Khosa said that future building of the nation was depended on the teachers and scientists who educate the society and contribute to make great nation.
Punjab Governor urged the scientist, researchers and scholars to conduct their research on food safety, water preservation, waste management, and control over drugs and poisons to protect and upraise our future resources. UVAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that government knows the importance of livestock sector adding that it was the only sector, which could overcome the poverty and to serve as an engine of economic development.
