The entire nation is anxiously and expectantly waiting for Wednesday, February 01, 2012,when two of the most important legal and constitutional issues of paramount national interest, one pertaining to the matter of presidential immunity relative to the infamous NRO quagmire and the other being the case of contempt of court in which Prime Minister Gilani is a respondent, will come up for hearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
We Pakistanis, without a shred of doubt, would like the Supreme Court to finally deliver decisive verdicts and take emphatic decisions on the above cases, dictated solely by constitutional provisions and under the applicable rules of law, which should be held and enforced under all circumstances and conditions, period.
However, as a cynical common citizen, my prediction is that our most benevolent, magnanimous, generous and supremely tolerant Supreme Court will, again, not take firm decisions, in either cases. My prediction is that the respondents will be given respite, at least for another two weeks, as has been the case, thus far, to file their respective answers to the "legal" questions which will be raised by the benches of the honourable judges. After all, the Supreme Court has already provided a long breathing period of over two years and enormous respite to the respondents in the above cases, a further delay of a few more weeks in passing the final decisions, would neither matter, nor would be of any material consequences. In any case, as opined by some legal experts, the money laundering cases in the Swiss courts, will die a natural death for being time barred. Hooray and good luck to Zardari and associates. "Na rahay ga baans aur na bajjay gi baansory"! Finally, a 'happy ending' and everyone will be off the hook!
Pussyfooting will again rule supreme and the traumatised nation's life will continue to be tormented to its limit and remain in a limbo, Q.E.D.
