If Nato supply restored: Jamaat-e-Islami threatens to 'besiege' parliament house on February 3
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Thursday warned the government to 'besiege' parliament house on February 03 on the eve of joint session of the two houses against the expected re-opening of Nato supply lines. Speaking at a news conference here, JI Secretary-General Liaqat Baloch said that the US has come forward to rescue President Zadari and his team in the memo gate scandal.
"We will not allow the government to push the people once again to become slaves of the US," Baloch said and also announced that JI would stage sit-in and 'besiege' the parliament on the occasion of joint sitting on February 03. He also said that the JI's central executive committee has rejected recommendations of the parliamentary committee on national security and the party's member in the panel Professor Khurshid Ahmed and other representatives would inform the committee in written about the party's decision.
He said that there were reports that the government wants to use parliament as shoulder for re-opening Nato supplies. If felt necessary, Baloch warned that the JI would withdraw their representation from the parliamentary bodies taking other measures as a protest. He also warned that the JI along with "Difa-e-Pakistan Council (Defence of Pakistan Council) would launch countrywide protest if the government tried to re-open Nato supplies.
He said that after Salala Nato airstrike, it was a unanimous demand of the entire country to shut the US and Nato supplies, but, he regretted that the government seems to backtrack from its stand in this regard. He further said that the parliament, which is going to complete its tenure, does not have the mandate to take such an important decision; therefore, he asked the government not to use the parliament for resumption of the Nato supplies, adding that any decision in this regard would be taken by the new parliament following the general elections. To a question, he said that JI has already explained its position regarding the election commission, saying that free, fair and transparent election was not possible without independent election commission.
