Balochistan Assembly resolution urges state institutions to avoid confrontation
The legislators of Balochistan Assembly in the session of the legislature on Thursday passed a resolution urging the state institutions to avoid confrontation as it would damage democracy. The assembly session held with Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani in chair.
Minister for Works and Deputy Parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the provincial assembly, Haji Ali Madad Jatak moved the resolution. "The Balochistan Assembly reposes its trust in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and fully support their efforts being put to strengthen democracy," the resolution said. It underlined the need to maintain principle of division of powers and that no state institution would interfere into the affairs of other state institution.
It said that bright future of Pakistan and welfare of masses was lying in smooth flourishing of democracy and democratic set-up adding that only the constitutional government was guaranty of strength of the federation, resolution of national issues and empowerment of the nation.
"The house believes that all state institutions should work within their framework to allow democracy and democratic institutions to flourish smoothly," it said. Delivering his speech, Jatak said that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani have been playing significant role for strengthening democracy. "Masses had given mandate to the incumbent government to complete five year tenure," he said adding that supremacy of the parliament should be recognised. Minister for Health, Aainullah Shams said the government should be given chance to complete five year tenure as masses had elected it.
He demanded to form a committee of all political parties which should review that who broke the constitution of the country and who endorsed such act. Minister for Sports Mir Shah Nawaz Marri recalled that a dictator had termed the constitution only a booklet which showed his bad view about the democracy.
He stressed the need to support democratic government for the cause of democracy. Minister for Quetta Development Authority (QDA) and PPP leader Haji Ismail Gujjar said that progress and prosperity of Pakistan was in smooth continuity of democracy. MPA Ghulam Jan Baloch said that a dictator-led government could not steer the country out of crisis.
MPA Nasreen Khaitran said that completion of five year tenure by the incumbent government would be a success of democracy. Pakistan Muslim League-Q MPA Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhel said that only democracy and parliament are guarantee of prosperity of the country.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and PML-Q leader Shama Perveen Magsi said that she fully supported the resolution. Minister for Local Government and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Nazriati (JUI-N) leader Abdul Khaliq Bashar Dost said that a democratic government should be supported to complete its five years tenure, saying present wave of violence in the country was due to wrong policies adopted by former dictator Pervez Musharraf.
The chair put the resolution to the house which passed it unanimously. Later, after completion of other proceedings of the assembly, the Speaker adjourned the house till Saturday, 28th January.
