Federal Shariat Court here Thursday sought version of the government by January 30 whether the food items being imported from foreign countries were legitimate as per Islamic injunctions. The court passed these orders in a petition filed by a bar member Irfan Masood Sheikh who pleaded that source composition and certification of food ingredients brought in Pakistan for consumption of Muslim population needed to ensure compliance of requirements of injunctions of Islam.
The petitioner also pointed out that "E numbering system" pertained to non-vegetarian section of the homogenous codification was required proper examination in order to ensure compliance of parameters set by Islam. The bench comprising Justice Shahzado Shaikh, Justice Dr Fida Muhammad Khan and Justice Rizwan Ali Dodani directed a deputy attorney general, Shaista Qaiser to come up with version of the government by next date of hearing and rose for the day.
