Senior Vice President of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (HCCI) Turab Ali Khoja on Sunday inaugurated the Hyderabad Leather Footwear Centre set up with the collaboration of Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Sindh Small Industries Corporation (SSCI).
Khoja said that he was very happy to see that Hyderabad Leather Footwear Centre started working again after 20 years. He appreciated the role of the SMEDA in the development of footwear industry of Hyderabad and making the machinery of four million dollars useable.
"Leather footwear manufacturing is old industry of Hyderabad but proper attention was not given to it, resultantly footwear craftsmen still are working manually while in Punjab modern technology is being employed," he observed.
On the occasion, General Manager of SMEDA Out Reach Syed Iqbal Kidwai gave the introduction to SMEDA projects and initiatives taken for SME's development. He said that SMEDA is the department of the federal government and has its offices in all four provinces.
He further said that they were preparing a pulp of mango in Multan Common Facility Centre and it was being exported to foreign countries. General Manager SMEDA Muslim Raza said that Pakistan needs 4 million shoes and chappals annually.
He appreciated the local manufacturers, who were making footwear on modern technology. Hyderabad Leather Footwear Centre had been equipped with shoe machinery and hand-made small footwear manufacturing unit, he said.
