Three activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were gunned down while two others injured in a drive-by shooting near Power House in the limits of Bilal Colony police station on Monday. According to police, the incident took place in Sector 5-D, near Power House in New Karachi area, where unidentified armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on a double-cabin car, leaving three MQM workers, Nizamuddin alias Adil, 20, Adnan, 22, and Irfan alias Shahrukh, 25 injured.
They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where all of them succumbed to their injuries. After getting the information, scores of MQM workers rushed to the hospital. Police sources said although they were unable to ascertain the motive behind the killings, the deceased were targeted when they were sitting in a double cabin car owned by a former APMSO member, Hyder.
DSP Akhtar said though police was clueless about the attackers, an MQM activist, Asif, had also been killed some three months ago in a similar manner at the said place. Meanwhile, unidentified men set a mini bus ablaze near Yousuf Plaza on Shahrah-e-Pakistan. Following the incident, tension gripped several parts of the city including Orangi Town, F.B Area in general and North Karachi in particular where all social and commercial activities came to a halt.
