Sindh Environment department would form a committee to monitor the sugar mills situated in Ghotki town and its adjoining areas, Business Recorder has learnt on Monday. Provincial Environment Minister has issued directives for constitution of the committee, sources said.
They said Afzal visited Ghotki town a few days back, during which various non-governmental organisations and journalists complained of the environmental hazards being created by sugar mills situated in Ghotki town and its suburbs. Taking notice of the issue, the minister directed Sindh Environmental Protection Agency's (Sepa) Regional Office to establish a monitoring body to check the effluent and waste being generated by these sugar mills and take necessary legal action if any sugar mill found involved in violating Pakistan Environmental Protection Act 1997.
