Power shortfall persisted for second consecutive day with short supply of furnace oil to thermal units, putting the generation at around 8000MW despite addition of hydel generation to the system. According to the sources, Pepco-run thermal units remained short of fuel supply to generate electricity for second consecutive day.
They said supply of furnace oil dropped immediately after resumption of hydel generation at limited scale. The hydel sources are generating some 2000MW electricity at present, they added. There were hopes that the power shortfall would be met with addition of hydel generation to the system. However, it proved other way round and the thermal generation dropped by similar quantity forthwith.
Textile industry circles expressed deep concerns over the situation. According to them, the defaults of public sector organisations were running into billions of rupees against the industry where no default of single penny exists. Also, they said, the line losses on industrial feeders was less than 2 percent against over 22 percent on other feeders. But still the industry was not topping the priority list of the Pepco.
