The Met Office on Wednesday advised farmers to accelerate removing weeds from standing wheat crop to protect soil moisture to help the crop attain maximum nutrients to grow fast.
"Wheat crop is in tillering/shooting/flowering development stages in the agriculture plains of the country. Farmers should irrigate crops as per requirement keeping the coming rains in mind. Generally, next irrigation is given 20-22 days after the first," it said in its 10-day advisory to farmers.
The Met Office said cold wave conditions were likely to grip most parts of the country from February 4 to February 10, 2012, adding that mainly dry weather was expected in Sindh during next 10 days.
The Met Office forecast scattered rain with snowfall over the hills in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Balochistan from Feb 3 to February 6, 2012. It said heavy snowfall was expected over the hills of Murree in Punjab and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa on February 4 and 5, 2012. It said widespread rain/snow was expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Feb 3 to Feb 6 2012.
It said normal wind pattern was likely to remain in most parts of the country, besides gusty winds could hit some parts during a rainy spell.
