The provincial cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has constituted a task force for looking into legal, administrative and infrastructure aspects of traffic problems and come up with concrete proposals to address the issue and provide relief to the people.
The task force will be headed by Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The cabinet its meeting on January 30, 2012 expressed serious concern over the growing traffic problems in Peshawar, which was causing immense inconvenience to the general public.
As a beginning, a team comprising of Secretary Transport, DIG Traffic, Secretary PTA/RTA and ACO Peshawar visited different parts of the city like Ashraf Road, Chowk Yadgar, City Circular Road, Bacha Khan Chowk and analysed the problems on ground like encroachments, illegal stands, blockade of roads by vendors, illegal cabins and establishment of rickshaw repair workshops on Circular Road of Peshawar.
The team met with a cross section of people who apprised them of difficulties being faced by them, especially the female pedestrian using these roads. In most plans the footpaths had been literally occupied by vendors/shopkeepers forcing pedestrian to walk on road and adding to traffic hazards.
